A few members of the party have association with the infamous arcane order, Guardians of the Rod and Cup.

what is the nature of my association with the group? Member, aspiring member, hanger-on, I kinda know how to get there but have never actually been there?
What does Lucian know about the Guardians. John knows practically nothing.

I intend to roll character backgrounds into the, likely massive, first storyline post (coming soontm).
That said, The Guardians of the Rod and Cup is an arcane order lead by Archmage Faustino Illuminato. They are responsible for maintaining the circlets that signify and empower citizenship and caste on the Walking City. They also maintain a vault of powerful magical artifacts, and work avidly with the Gatherer's Guild to obtain more. Their ethics are commonly put into question if not their morals.
Lucian will start as a new initiate having just recently completed his apprenticeship.
You will have a few other members and you're in charge of sorting out disagreements and leading group goals and discussion. More on that later.
